Plans for the upcoming release v0.6

PyCAM’s architectural rewrite is close to its completion. Around 50 plugins with limited scope replaced a formerly huge pile of fairly complex GUI code. Some few features were added and most of the existing features of release v0.5.1 are working.

Since I like the approach of fairly regular releases, I plan to publish v0.6 by the end of this month. This release will lack some previously working features for the sake of getting a broader tester’s base for the new code. I also envision a broader participation of users/contributors who try to solve their specific problems by extending PyCAM via its new fairly simple plugin structure. I hope, that you share this vision :)

The most notably feature missing from the initial v0.6 release will be the command line handling (batch mode). It will be available again in v0.6.1. Additionally the current format of PyCAM’s GUI and task settings will not be compatible with previous releases. I hope, you don’t mind the break.

Looks like it will be a great release

I’ve been using 0.5.1 lately for milling some fiberglass plates on a Taig machine. It works very well, I especially like the carve contour mode that follows polygons. I’m looking forward to trying the next version. Thank you for creating such useful software!

release timing

I guess, v0.6 will be released before the end of this year. A more exact time estimation is quite impossible :)

looks great!

Can’t wait for the release of 0.6. I’m really impressed with 0.5.1 so far. I tried to make an account, but I got a message that email could not be sent?

Looking forward to the new release!

Plugin structure sounds as a good way to go. And circular path support would be awesome.

Looking forward to extend the good stuff.dzRNw
